Welcome to Pleural Mesothelioma info ... |
Science and technology has made tremendous advancements. The life style of the modern man is quite unlike what it used to be some couple of decades back. Even from the health point of view today's man feels more secure and healthy than he has ever felt before. But the picture is still not that rosy as it seems. Even today there are diseases that are very fast becoming a threat to the human life. Even today there are several challenges that the medical scientists are still struggling to fight. Among many of such diseases, one is pleural mesothelioma.
Mesothelioma in general is a cancer that afflicts the membrane forming a protective covering around majority of the human body's internal organs.
This membrane is known as mesothelium. Mesothelium has different nomenclatures depending upon the internal organ that it is covering. The part of membrane that covers the lungs and the chest cavity is known as pleural membrane. The pleural consists of two parts. One is the outer part that is known as the parietal layer that surrounds the chest, whereas the other layer which is the inner layer known as visceral surrounds the lungs.
Pleura is the region between the two layers.
Pleural mesothelioma is the cancer of the pleural membrane. The main cause of this cancer is the exposure to mineral called asbestos. People working in the asbestos rich environment are the ones who are most likely to develop this form of cancer. Pleural mesothelioma is one of the most common forms of mesothelioma. Majority of the research work that has been done on mesothelioma is done in the domain of pleural mesothelioma. As a result quite a lot of data and information is available concerning this cancer.
Although the prognosis of pleural or in fact any type of mesothelioma is negative, still with the advancements in the field of medical technology and availability of better medicines the life of a person suffering from pleural mesothelioma can be made much better.
Although the dangers posed by asbestos to the human body are well known and well documented, still many governments are quite apprehensive about imposing a complete ban on the production and use of asbestos. Many private organizations and businesses are still producing and using asbestos.
A person who gets afflicted with pleural or any other form of mesothelioma has a right to file a law suit against the producers of asbestos and the employer if he did not inform the patient about the presence of asbestos at the work place and did not provide enough protection.
